I had grand plans of waiting until M2's birthday to share his name, however, with less than two weeks to go I just had to spill the beans. I've been saying his name out loud for weeks now and I just can't keep the secret any longer!
I'm terrible at keeping secrets. So much so, that I've dropped little hints here and there (you may recall Real Mature Vague Tweet #1: "I won") that was in reference to The Name Battle that had been raging between The Husband and I for months. And months. And months.
When, in reality, I don't considering it "winning" necessarily- just that The Husband finally crossed over to The Cool Name Side. A few weeks after writing this post, where I devastatingly wondered if mourning a baby name was appropro, something inside of me just couldn't let the name go and I decided to try one final time to convince the husband of the desires of my heart.
I am so happy to be sharing Maclane's name with you as it's the name I have loved from the very, very beginning. You may notice that the spelling has been altered- this was The Husband's sole request as the initial spelling, "McLane," was "too last name" for his liking.
Although we're not big on nicknames, I have a feeling we'll be calling him "Mac" in no time. As a matter of fact, I've been trying for weeks now to get Carter to say "Baby Mac," but to no avail.
For those of you wondering, the pronunciation is "Mah-clane." "How did I come up with this name," you ask? Unfortunately, there's no cool story behind it. I went to grade school with a boy whose name was "McLean" and it's always been a name that I've loved.
You may recall that Carter's name is a family name- my mother's maiden name to be exact. He shares his middle name with The Husband.
Maclane will be sharing his middle name with my Dad and I can't help but get a little weepy each and every time I think about naming my second son after one of the most incredible men in my life!
Until today, very few friends and family have been privy to his name. I never thought I would be one of those people who would ever keep their chosen baby name a secret. Truth be told, it drives me crazy when friends and family withhold baby names! Don't they know there's monogramming to be done?
So there you have it, Loyals. As you wait and pray over the arrival of our sweet baby boy with us, you'll now be able to call him by name!
I love it! :) Can't wait to put a sweet face to the cool name!
ReplyDeleteYou know I love it, girl. In fact, for my hypothetical son that has not yet been conceived, I like the name Benjamin McConnell. My dad is Ben and my middle name (before marriage) is McConnell. I'd love to also call him Mac. We'll most definitely be praying for you, Maclane and the rest of the M family. Hugs and kisses!
ReplyDeleteA, I LOVE it. Great post and thanks for sharing. I do have to tell you that I told Hubs you were revealing the name - he guessed "Mathius". ;)
ReplyDeleteHope your back is feeling better, Mama.
Yay! Omg! I love it! I can't wait to see what baby Maclane looks like now! Thank you so much for sharing with us!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, so the secret is out and M2 has an official name! :) I LOVE it!! Can't wait for his arrival on the 18th!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, so glad the secret is out!! I Love the name and can't wait for his arrival!
ReplyDeleteUmmm....in love with it! So glad you shared.
ReplyDeleteGreat name!
ReplyDeleteLove it! My friend just named her son Maclen (pronounced like Declan).
ReplyDeleteThe Husband and I fought about our daughter's name until the night before she was born, and then we finally agreed! And it was a totally different name then either of us were fighting for. He wanted Quinn, I wanted Maizy, we agreed on Avery. And I was harassed by everyone my entire pregnancy about names, and some of the names people suggested made me want to vomit on them. If someone suggested a name that was on The List, it automatically got erased, and that would piss me off too. By the end of my pregnancy, no one was allowed to mention any names to me!
Awww, I love it! I can't wait to 'meet' Baby Mac! :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice :) We just named our new little boy Davis Allen and Allen is a family name on our side as well.

ReplyDeleteYay! I'm so excited for you guys and happy that you decided {aka converted the hubs} on a name!!! I know that is quite a special feeling. My hubby and I are finally getting close to picking our baby girl's name and I'm already feeling a bit of relief that the process is almost over...and that the monogramming will soon begin! Haha!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE the name Maclane!!! So glad your man finally came around. :) Men are so difficult sometimes!!!
you'd be interested to hear that although I moved away prior to McLean entering the picture in NJ, we actually shared a dorm building in college and got to talking about the old NJ people - such a small world! By the way I love the name maclane and the nickname Mac! too sweet :)
ReplyDeleteVery cool name! Unique, but not too flashy. We are still in naming hell here, with only 5 weeks to go. The Hubs and I cannot agree on anything. I have one name that I love that I keep going back to, but he has used his official "veto" power on that one. Boo! Maybe I'll keep trying...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear the news of Baby Mac's arrival!! Best of luck!
LOVE the name and LOVE the pride and joy that comes through in this post! Congrats :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it!! It's so different (I love unique names) I can totally see him as the 20 something stud muffin with the 'cool' name all the girls swoon over. Ha!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice, and to be honest I really prefer the new spelling you've agreed on! Super sweet!
Hurry into the world Baby Mac - we're all excited to ooh and aah over your cuteness! :) xoxo
Oh I love love love it!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you went with your favorite!! Our kids' middle names are both family names as well. I love it!!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute name and love that it has such meaning!!!! Thanks for finally sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it! My maiden name had a Mc and when I got married the nurse at my school was so upset that I was losing the Mc because she always wanted to have a last name with a Mc! She actually calls me Mc{current last name}. I once thought we should name one of our kids with a Mc, but my cousin's youngest daughter is a McKinley and we are close so we probably won't do that even though we call her daughter Mae.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the name and the spelling! Can't wait to meet that precious little one.
ReplyDeleteYou won, right?!? This is the one you wanted?? Love it! Goes well with Carter :)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis kid is already a BA. He has a lot to live up to with Die Hard in his blood.
ReplyDeleteI love it! I am going to need you to do a vlog on how to pronounce because I am from OK and I am just not "hearing" it from reading the pronunciation. LOL! I can't wait to see pictures of him and hear the birth story.
