1. A classic white vanilla cake, frosted with decadent buttercream frosting. Adorned with a handmade bunting using a free printable found online.
Reserved at first, C kept looking around the room as if to say, "Can I really eat this? Is this really all mine?" As the guests stood around him and cheered, he clapped for himself when we clapped and very quickly overcame his reservations and dove in head first! Literally!
And for the guests? They enjoyed individual red velvet cupcakes.
Happy Thursday, Loyals! Tomorrow's post will showcase the fabulous Etsy seller who helped bring this Crazy Mama's Carnival Circus vision to life with custom invitations, cupcake toppers and water bottle labels!
So cute! I love that he dove in head first! The carnival themed birthday is such a great idea - and it turned out great! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteYummy!! Love these cake pics!
ReplyDeleteCan I get a cupcake please?!?!?! RED VELVET ARE MY FAVE!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHe is SOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!
I'm having so much fun reading Carter's birthday posts. My son, Monroe, turned 1 in April and his party was a circus theme, so we had a lot of the same things. I wish I'd known about the ebay seller who made his john john before Monroe's party. Of course, his was pretty cute too! He had a red gingham john john with an elephant on one of those drum things and his name.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe people thought it was crazy to give him cake! Monroe hadn't had a single sweet until his birthday and he LOVED IT! HE lucked out too because his birthday was the day before his party. I wanted to celebrate his actual day, so we met his dad at work and had cupcakes with his co-workers. That was his first real taste and he was so funny. Then, I'd already made him a smash cake to enjoy with our little family, so he had that that night too. The next day we still had a smash cake at his birthday party. Surprisingly (or maybe not since it was his third try in two days) he wasn't that into it at the party. The bakery used fondant and that kind of ruined the experience. There was a blue clown made out of icing on the top and he enjoyed that quite a bit. We had blue poo for days!
I'm all about babies smashing into cakes!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this post! My sister REFUSED to let my nephew do this at his first birthday and his Aunt is hell bent on letting him do it for his second. No child should be deprived of a smash cake! Heck, I want a smash cake and I'm 23!
ReplyDeleteCarter is ADORABLE and this looks like one amazing party. It should be in a party magazine!
Ahh I love it. Love love love it!
ReplyDeleteCarter looks like he had the time of his life!! I can't wait for Kelsey's cake smash in a few weeks!! Too cute! Great job mama!!
ReplyDeletehaha... I love when people do this for birthday parties -- kids should be able to enjoy themselves with no reservations -- looks like he had a great time!!
ReplyDeleteHow adorable! People really thought it was weird for him to have a smash cake? Is that not normal? Because I have a 12 year old and she had a smash cake!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm back ... will you be so kind as to share where you found the free printables?
ReplyDeleteL did the exact!same!thing! Love the head-first technique.
ReplyDeleteSo so cute! I love me some baby cake pictures!
ReplyDeleteI am loving all your bday posts. Everything turned out so perfectly and it really does sound like everyone had a great time.
ReplyDeleteSweet boy! I am loving this recap week!
ReplyDeleteI love the first birthday smash cakes pictures, so adorable!
ReplyDeleteI love the "is this really mine" face! So damn cute. And I adore the outfit too - so perfect.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I love the face in the cake picture!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so adorable! I love how most kids always do start out hesitant when you hand them something they're normally not allowed to get into! Then when they realize mommy says it's okay - it's Go Time! ;o)
ReplyDeletePeople really judge those who let their kids have cake on their birthdays? Who ARE these people? Sheesh.
Zoe at her cake one tiny piece at a time...it was immensely disappointing! =)
ReplyDeleteThere were seriously people opposed to letting Carter play with his cake???
