How come everything always sounds cuter when you add the suffix -ie(s)? We're talking about diapies, milkies, sickies, screamies, boogies.. I mean, they all sound absolutely adorable, do they not? Well, one thing that is not adorable? Boogies. And a sniffly, sneezy, smooshy four month old. Let it be known that I feel like an absolute mom-failure since C has already managed to come down with his first cold. However, I do feel that it was slightly unavoidable. Despite his every attempt to Lysol even the smallest nook and cranny of our house, Carter managed to catch my husband's cold. Carter's got the coldies. Oh, wait. That doesn't sound so cute.
Things that suck worse than your helpless four month old coming down with a head cold? Funny you should ask! Speaking of things that SUCK, see that obnoxious blue bulbous apparatus? I swear, that thing is the devil. You might be saying, "yeah, but AP, you're a nurse!" And although that is very much the truth, I did not ever in my life go around sucking snot rockets out of miniature humans. Are you sure it's not possible to suck his little brain out through his nose? Perhaps an eyeball at the very least? Because that is my greatest fear. Despite being the devil, I must admit that the thing works like a charm. And I may or may not be slightly obsessed about my son's clean nasal cavity. Die germies, die! (Squeal. Germies. SO cute.)
Carter is such a trooper. He doesn't mind Mommy constantly sticking that ridiculous squeeze bulb up his nose and hasn't complained once. It just breaks my heart into a bazillion tiny pieces to see him sniffle and smoosh and squeak. Thank the Mommy gods for services like Diapers(dot)com that will be delivery a bunch of goodies for my little sickie today. In the meantime, we'll be spending the day snugged up on the couch watching Christmas movies and wishing those germies away!
Aww! Feel better Mister C!
ReplyDeleteAww, poor buddy! I hope he gets well soon! I am a complete failure at using the boogie sucker-outer. That's it's official name, in case you were wondering :) I am terrible at using it and Cooper hates it too. Unfortunately the kid has some major boogers and thus we have learned the MANY uses of bobby pins and q-tips, haha.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel like a mom-failure! When Connor was in the hospital at 11 weeks with Viral Meningitis I REALLY felt like a mom-failure, but sometimes there is just nothing you can do to prevent it. Hope he gets to feeling better REAL soon!
ReplyDeleteI heart the snot sucker. We've used many a times as Jamie seems to have a constant snuffly nose. He doesn't mind it so much...it's when I skirt the saline up there first that makes him scream like a little girl. It used to make me feel bad until I realized how much eaiser it made the sucking out.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Hope your little man feels better soon (and that you don't get it too!)
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate. For some reason Emmy's little right nostril likes to harbor baby boogies (yes everything sounds cuter with -ies!) probably from the birth, and i HAVE to get them out! It doesn't seem to bother her that she's clogged up, but her nasal-y (yes, it's a word) noises freak me out and keep me up at night. So, the bulb it is. Good thing she's a little trooper. Hope Carter feels better!!! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteSaline really helps to suck as much out as you can. Squirt some of that up there and for some reason it loosens it up and more gets sucked out. Also, Boogie Wipes are awesome wipes that include saline and it doesn't dry their nose out or hurt as much as a kleenex would.
ReplyDeleteWhen Connor had his first cold in October, that is when he first learned to roll over back to belly. He would see me coming with the bulb syringe and contort his body to avoid it.. little stinker!
I hope he feels better soon!
I have not tried to use any of the FOUR boogie suckers we have since Tommy was under 3 months old...I hated it! I also speak highly of the saline spray/drops as that seems to work very quickly to loosen up the boogies and then the boogie wipes to wipe the icky stuff away. Kudos to all of you who are able to use the boogie suckers!
ReplyDeleteHope C gets to feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteI *love* diapers(dot)com! Thanks to their super fast deliveries, I've only bought diapers at the store twice in 16+ months. They are a mommy life-saver!
Awwww! Poor little guy! Germies are no good (even if they do sound cute)! And I'm with you on those suckers, I'm always afraid I'm going to stab the inside of Vivy's nose or do some sort of permanent damage with that awful thing! I hope Carter feels better soon!
ReplyDeletePoor Carter! Hope he gets to feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen my son got his first cold he also got his first ear infection...which I didn't know he had one until after a few days. Talk about feeling like bad mom of the year. And I hated those nasal suckers!
